Pumpflow Ltd Contract Update- Somerset Levels Pumping Station Upgrades

The Somerset Levels are one of the lowest land areas in the UK, with 18% of Somerset laying below tidal levels. Extending over 60,000 hectares and incorporating 32 sites of special scientific interest, these wetlands support a rich variety of biodiversity and are considered to be of international importance.

Being so flat, the area is naturally at risk of flooding, with events recorded as far back as the 1600’s and with more recent, well published, events taking place in 2014 and 2023.

Given the importance placed on this region, Pumpflow Ltd are delighted and indeed very proud to have been selected by Galliford Try and the Environment Agency to supply our market leading “Rotor Pull-Out” fish safe pump technology, for upgrade projects at:

Midelney, Huish, Westover and Northmoor Pumping Stations.

Pumpflow Ltd will supply a total of 11 high capacity, fish safe, vertical rotor pull-out pumps:

  • Midelney Pumping Station- 3 Off - FS700-5L- Vertical Rotor-Pull-Out Pumps.
  • Northmoor Pumping Station- 2 Off - FS700-5L- Vertical Rotor-Pull-Out Pumps.
  • Huish Pumping Station- 3 Off – FS900-5L- Vertical Rotor-Pull-Out Pumps.
  • Westover Pumping Station- 3 Off – FS500-5L- Vertical Rotor-Pull-Out Pumps.

All of these pumping stations require bespoke, retrofit solutions, which can fit within the existing civil infrastructure.

The “Rotor-Pull-Out” designs selected also offer a range of operational benefits, which will enhance the overall operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the installations, including:
